Katie's State House Appearances
Today Katie was introduced to both the House and Senate at the State
House in Boston, and honored for her Boston Pops High School Sing Off
win. In the House, Representative Eric Turkington introduced her,
and then turned the mic over to her. She graciously thanked the
House for the honor of being invited before them, then made a plug for
the arts in our public schools via praising the Boston Pops for putting
the spotlight on high school talent, completely off the cuff and
spontaneous. She got a standing O and a big round of applause for
that. Then she asked if there were any Broadway fans in the
audience, to which she got a rousing response. She then sang, a
capella, Joanna by Sondheim from Sweeney Todd, and received a standing
ovation and a very long round of applause. As she passed down the
halls of the chamber she was stopped for congratulations and praise
over and over. Many thanked her for making her statement in
support of the arts in school, and all commented on not only her voice,
but her poise and natural ease at the podium. Then she was taken
down the hall to the Senate, where she did it all over again.
When we got home we found two different phone messages from
Representative Turkington thanking her and telling her she was a big
hit. Quite the experience for a 16 year old from The Rock!
Hoping to post video clips and a pic or two on the web site in the next
week or so.
